"This picture is of my father commissioning me. The reason it was taken is that it made academy history. It was the first time ever a graduate was commissioned by a non-commissioned officer.
He was Arthur Sweberg, CWO-4, at the time the senior warrant officer in the army, the CWO-5 grade did not exist at this time. He was chief of CID for the US northeast. At the behest of the Superintendent the Secretary of the Army issued orders temporarily promoting him to full colonel for 'the purpose of commissioning his son into the army'. The orders stated that he immediately reverted to current permanent rank at the conclusion of the commissioning ceremony.
We held it at the First Class Club. And because of the orders, at the conclusion of the ceremony after I repeated and said 'So help me God', he saluted me and stuck his hand out says 'where is my buck'. He got my first salute dollar.
My father retired three months later in September after 31 years of service. He served in WWII, Korea and Vietnam."
