From the depths of the cadet barber shop annex in New South, to McArthur barracks, Home of the TD, we sure have come a long way. First, there was Johnny Tac who "zoomed" in on a wing and a prayer and left without either. Next they brought in the first string and as any Gopher will tell you, the Coach was quite a "Guy." We finished the season with MA] "that's what I'm talking bout" Briggs. On the starting lineup was "Void" who between milk runs and 200 hours on the area, believed all his problems were "little" ones. Davie "hock - jock" Annen, Old Man, JB -- who swore NY wouldn't cure him of his accent. Ray B, who spent a few details with the "colored guard," Garman and FG whose winning smile made his stand out in a crowd. Samson-sans hair, Uncle Ane, Delowishey, Yelverton, Strom, "Herculee," and of course when you heard a "Ribbit" reverberate through the halls, you knew Bleep was around. Okie, who had an uncanny "sick scents," and the infamous Smogg, whose exploits put Seligman on the map. He had crossed rifles in his heart as well as on his ring. Then there's Dudbin -- our fearless leader, Big Huey who was always looking for the 'poop," Butterball, Pete and Big Sal, a tiger on the gridiron but give him a pizza and he's a pussy cat. Artistically there's FDG Williams -- editor of the Gopher Gazette and a true Thespian on or off the stage, and Berg -- always going to 720 with one instrument or another. Of course every team has a mascot, and Walt Baby Love was ours. In reflection, all of us can look back and truly say, "We were proud to be Gophers."
